Edward Lloyds Coffee House
A branch of Sainsburys Local in Lombard Street is the site of Edward Lloyd's coffee house. Relocated to Lombard Street in 1691 and remaining there until 1795, it was first opened in 1688 in Tower Street and was a popular place for sailors, merchants, and ship owners to meet, and Lloyd provided them with reliable shipping news. The shipping merchants met here to discuss insurance deals among themselves and from these social meetings grew the leading insurance market - Lloyds of London.
