St Catherine Coleman church stood here before being demolished in 1926 and was a parish church in the City of London, the site of its gates can just be seen in the entrance to the alley
Fenchurch Street was once the site of the East and West India Companies tea and drug warehouses in the late 18th century, only the red brick building here remains. The East India Company operated in buildings next to this corner - all trade to the east of the Cape of Good Hope was conducted here until the Indian Mutiny in 1858.
On the outside of the pub is a plaque to the East India Company and its history.
