Haberdashers Company - 8

An offshoot of the Mercers, with two branches; Hurrers or Cappers who made and sold hats, whist the Milliners imported fashionable goods from Milan. Originally cloth worn underneath armour.

Medieval origins, selling ribbons, beads, purses, gloves, pins and caps. Also dealing with the import of pins,   Pins were useful, having replaced thorns for fastenings, but were expensive. Well-off gentlemen were required to issue their wives with pin money.

The Haberdashers Hall was originally in Staining Lane, but destroyed in the Great Fire and a new hall moved to West Smithfield.
