Worshipful Company of Cordwainers - 27

Cordwainer Statue in Watling Street

Cordovan is the Spanish word for fine leather - Cordwainers were shoemakers and other luxury leather workers who lived, worked and traded in Cordwainers Street, now renamed Bow Lane.

One of the city's oldest companies, the Guild of Cordwainers obtained a Royal Charter in 1493, their sixth Livery Hall bordering St Paul's Churchyard (plaque remains) was destroyed in the Blitz and now they use the Clothworkers Hall for functions.

This statue was erected in the Ward of Cordwainer.

Jimmy Choo is a member of the Cordwainers
