The Honourable The Irish Company - Guildhall Yard

During reign of James I, Lord Chichester and men from four Livery companies went to Ulster to see the proposed site of a plantation project. Towns such as Derry and Coleraine took advice from the City of London and Londonderry was established. The Irish Society, consisting of members nominated by Livery Companies was created by Royal Charter effectively to colonise Londonderry during the plantation of Ulster.
