The Financial City introduction

Lots to learn about today including the importance and history of London's great financial power! London is one of the world’s three main financial centres – the other two being New York and Tokyo. The area in the eastern half of the City of London is where the City's financial institutions were started and grew, making it the major financial hub it is today...

Since the Romans founded London in 43AD, merchants began building near London bridge. The River Thames was central to the development of early trade in the City. Imported goods were: marble, wine, plus olive oil and exports were slaves, iron and grain.

Today, major institutions like banks, insurance companies and communications businesses have all developed from the early trading companies.
